ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Regina Dlugokencky is a reference librarian and organic grower. An avid gardener since age eight, she founded SeedSower Farm in 2009. In 2017 she established Nassau County's first Seed Library at Glen Cove Public Library where she created programming and workshops on sustainable gardening. Along with practical experience as an organic farmer, Regina has completed numerous courses in Horticulture fat Farmingdale State College. In 2024 Regina joined the Xerces Society as a Volunteer Ambassador, where she works to "advance invertebrate conservation by participating in community science, organizational tasks, and community engagement." Regina has co-presented at NYLA and Long Island Library conferences and teaches sustainable gardening presentations across Long Island.

Founded in 1971, the Xerces (pronounced Zer-sees) Society for Invertebrate Conservation is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats. Named for the Xerces blue butterfly, last seen flying in 1943.
